DIVE 2012 show, congratulations to our prize winners!
Thanks to all those who visited us during a very busy weekend at DIVE 2012 in Birmingham last month! As always the show was a great opportunity to catch up with our diving guests new and old, and with the good causes we support with your help, such as the Shark Trust, to whom Cath is pictured presenting proceeds from the sale of Camel’s Hammerhead t-shirts. Congratulations are due to the winners in our prize raffle, sponsored by Mares, who were: Emma Ward – dive holiday for two at Camel; Mark Jackson - Mares Prestige 12S regulator; David Rogers - Mares Puck dive computer; Faye Wilde- Camel Tribe t-shirt.
NEW: book your trip to Thistlegorm or Dahab
At Camel we run regular trips to world-renowned Thistlegorm and Dahab, but until now they’ve not been available for booking prior to your arrival. Not anymore! From now on these special trips are also available for advance booking. If you are a minimum of two divers booking either of these trips at the same time, we guarantee that they’ll be scheduled during your stay (weather permitting, of course!). Send an to our awesome reservation team for all details and to book.
European Shark Week – Camel style
The aim of this year’s European Shark Week was to put pressure on EU Fisheries Ministers to close loopholes in the shark finning ban. Supporting the Shark Alliance and Project AWARE, we held a pub quiz in Camel Bar on our Diver’s Night on 23 October. Among the traditional trivia and music rounds, we tested our entrants’ knowledge of the Apex predator. Prizes for the winning teams and the fundraising raffle were donated by Camel’s restaurants, Bar and Tribe shop. Camel Eco Tribe’s leader Cath Bates presented money raised on the night to Project AWARE at the UK dive show. The next step is for the scalloped hammerhead shark to be listed in Appendix II - the list that ensures trade is controlled - at CITES 2013. Sign the petition to help make this happen.
PHOTOS: Gobies and Blennies of Sharm El Sheikh
What’s your favourite sighting while diving the Red Sea? Are you into big fish, or do you prefer the challenge of spotting small creatures which are overlooked by most divers? If you fit the latter category, you will love our new gallery of gobies and blennies hidden among the beautiful coral of Sharm’s dive sites. The photos prove that spotting a small cute fish can be even more rewarding than seeing big fish schools: lovers of big fish may want to sharpen their eyes when diving in Sharm next time! Hammerheads and whalesharks – who said this is not the season?
Our spectacular summer sightings of ‘big stuff’ in Sharm El Sheikh have extended into Autumn this year! If you already follow us on Facebook, you’ll already know about the unbelievable hammerhead sightings which our guests and guides have witnessed almost daily since last June. These amazing creatures are still being spotted especially in the back of Jackson Reef (Tiran), reachable in less than 20 minutes with our super-fast speedboat. But our divers in Tiran are not the only ones being kept happy! See this photo on our Facebook page, to find out what our divers in Ras Mohammed spotted last week…
