Some of the best reef in Sharm el Sheikh lies just below the surface, close enough to explore with nothing more than a mask and a snorkel, no diving certification required. The waters around Sharm are part of one of the richest marine ecosystems in the Red Sea, home to an unusually high concentration of coral and reef life.

Forty years of diving these reefs means we know exactly where to take you, even without a tank. Our snorkelling trips (aka the Reef Discovery Programme) run by boat, in small groups, straight to the spots where that biodiversity is easiest to see.

Snorkeling is an activity that asks very little of you, yet gives back so much. The best part is that it’s accessible to anyone comfortable in the water, you don’t need to be a professional swimmer! It’s the easiest way to discover another side of this world, and understand why this stretch of coast became one of the world’s most loved diving and snorkeling destinations. All it takes is a little curiosity.

Reef discovery step by step

Here’s what to expect if you join the snorkeling guided boat trip:

Meet your guide at the dive centre for a full briefing and gear fitting
Board the Camel Tribe or Talia, our comfortable boats with shaded areas, sundecks and onboard toilets
First reef stop, time to explore
Relax and sunbathe on board between stops
Second reef stop at a different site
Optional lunch on board (for an extra cost)
Back at the dive centre

Bringing the kids?

The Reef Discovery Programme works for children too, with flotation aids, wetsuits, fins and masks sized for every age. Kids just need to be comfortable moving around in the water, a parent or guardian stays with them the whole time, in the water and on the boat.

A couple of things worth knowing in advance: children 12 and under need a private guide if the parents are diving separately, and the same applies if a child would otherwise be left unsupervised on the boat.

Snorkeling FAQs

Do I need to know how to swim well?

No special swimming skills are required, just being comfortable in the water. Our guides are there to support you throughout.

Is there a minimum age?

No, Reef Discovery is suitable for all ages. Kids just need to be comfortable moving around in the water, with a parent or guardian by their side the whole time.

Do I need to book the boat trip, or can I just snorkel on my own?

If you’re staying with us, you can snorkel straight from the beach whenever you like, no booking needed. The guided boat trip is for those who want to reach reef sites further out, with a guide, equipment and a bit more comfort.

What’s included in the Reef Discovery?

A full briefing, snorkel equipment, two guided reef stops, and time to relax and sunbathe on board. Lunch is available too, for an extra cost.

Can some of us dive while others snorkel?

Yes, divers and snorkelers can join the same boat trip. If your kids want to snorkel while you dive, just keep in mind that children 12 and under will need a private guide if you’re diving separately from them.
