Camel divers help conserve Red Sea turtles

We’re passionate about conserving our beautiful Red Sea, and one way in which our divers are making a real difference is via the Turtle Watch project. The project, launched in 2011, is managed by non-government organisation HEPCA. It aims to identify and research turtle populations throughout Egypt’s Red Sea, in order to produce a clear conservation plan. From May to December 2011, Camel divers and staff recorded 72 turtle sightings in our area, reporting data on depth, water temperature, turtle species and size. Virtually no information exists on turtle feeding grounds in the Red Sea, so our data is a vital contribution to this ongoing project. A big thank you to our guests and staff who participated - keep up the good work! Want to find out more? Read HEPCA’s 2011 Turtle Watch report, or why not volunteer on a Turtle Watch expedition?
