Camel is Dive Centre of the Year 2011!

We’re thrilled to have been voted Dive Centre of the Year 2011 in the prestigious DIVER magazine awards! We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us – the award is based exclusively on individual votes so we couldn’t have won, without you! A delighted Hesham Gabr, Camel's founder and chairman, commented: “We’re especially proud to have won the Award for 2011, as this is the same year in which we celebrated Camel Dive Club’s 25th birthday, and in which Sharm El Sheikh received the accolade of World's Leading Dive Destination in the World Tourism Awards. Our divers have shown us huge loyalty during what was also a momentous year for Egypt, and I’d like to thank all who have supported us.” We’ll receive the award (pictured here) at the London International Dive Show, after which we’ll put it on display at Camel for all to admire!

LIDS 2012: win a holiday at Camel, Mares equipment and more

Come and meet us and fellow diving enthusiasts at the London International Dive Show (31 March-1 April) at ExCel. We’ll be there on the Camel stand in the Red Sea Zone, stand 530, with exclusive show offers including free equipment rental for bookings made at the show. This year we’ll be holding a raffle with fantastic prizes including a dive and stay package for two people at Camel, a Mares Puck computer, and a Mares Prestige 12S regulator. Visit us for your chance to win, and tell your friends! Book your tickets online and save 3GBP per ticket.

Last minute offers - now extended until 31 March!

Escape the cold weather and start planning your next dive trip! With our special offers a 7 night stay with breakfast at 4* Camel Hotel, plus 5 days diving and return airport transfers costs just 356 Euros per person until 31 March, and during 15 May-15 July 2012. Alternatively, book a stay at any hotel in Sharm, then choose one of our diving packages: 3 days cost 138 Euros, or 5 days just 200 Euros for the dates above (free nitrox and hotel transfers included). If you're based in the UK and prefer to book a complete package including flights, our partners Scuba Travel also have great last minute rates for diving stays at Camel. We look forward to diving with you this year!

Spot two types of manta while diving in Sharm El Sheikh

Did you know that Sharm El Sheikh is one of only a handful of diving destinations in which, with luck, it’s possible to see two species of manta ray? Giant mantas (manta birostris) are the species most commonly seen in our waters – our divers spotted one last week at Temple. However we also have occasional lucky encounters with the rare Reef manta (manta alfredi). The one pictured here was filmed last November at Yolande Reef in Ras Mohammed National Park, by our videographer Vicky. According to Cath our Eco Tribe Coordinator, “Vicky’s footage of the Reef manta clearly shows markings all over the belly, whereas markings on the Giant manta’s belly are only underneath the gill slats. The Reef manta’s markings are spotted rather than the usual ‘ink blotch’ associated with a Giant”. Research by Camel friend Dr Andrea Marshall of the Foundation for the Protection of Marine Megafauna, shows that it is unusual to find these two species residing in the same habitat. Fingers crossed for our next sightings!

New for 2012: express speedboat diving in Tiran

Reach Tiran in less than 20 minutes with our new express speedboat diving service, the only one of its kind in Sharm. With departures up to five times per day including an ‘early bird’ trip at 7am, the speedboat is ideal for divers who want to dive the spectacular Straits of Tiran and still leave plenty of holiday time for other activities. It’s also available for private VIP snorkeling or diving trips. One dive by speedboat costs just 15 Euro supplement on the regular daily diving charge. Book your speedboat trip directly at our dive centre after arrival.

Join us on the Camel Dive Club Facebook Page

The arrival of Spring in Sharm has been accompanied by more sightings of ‘big fish’, including manta rays and whalesharks. Stay up to date with all the creatures that we’re spotting underwater, our latest photos and videos, plus news and special offers, by liking our Facebook page. We’ve just passed the milestone of 2000 likes, and we’d love you to join us!
