Pomodoro Restaurant Reopens
After weeks shrouded by screens, Pomodoro restaurant on Na'ama Bay's main street has re-emerged, transformed. The new space is cool and clean, yet relaxed, with a mixture of bar-style tables and cushioned seating. Pomodoro's deep red décor is offset by black and white prints from local photographer Ingo Riepl. The reopening sees the return of the famous lunchtime salad bar - new and improved, and served on refrigerated platters. Hot and cold buffet dishes are on offer, including vegetarian selections, and fresh soup every day. Evenings see an expanded menu of Italian grilled specialties, including fish, steak, homemade pizza and vegetarian dishes. Pomodoro, Camel Hotel, Na'ama Bay. Tel 069 3 600 700 for a reservation.
Celebrations at Camel Bar
The CakeBye bye PeteCarrol aka Tina Turner
Residents and guests at Camel Bar, along with bar managers Mike, Jo, and Carrol, joined Pete last month to celebrate his departure for a new life in New Zealand. Pete spent many of his 14 years in Sharm running the Camel Bar, and went out in the style to which he is accustomed! The crowd also welcomed back Carrol, another long-term Sharmer, to her new role in the Bar. At Pete's request she performed a special farewell version of 'Simply the Best' by Tina Turner, dressed for the occasion! We wish Pete and family all the best and look forward to the stories of his life on the other side of the world.
Camel Tribe clothes feature at Sharm Women's Club 5th Birthday
Camel Tribe clothes feature at Sharm Women's Club 5th BirthdaySharm saw a return to the swinging sixties for Sharm Women's Club's 5th Anniversary celebrations, at Il Castello restaurant, on 10th May. Outfits and décor straight from the era of flower-power were on display as more than 60 women gathered to enjoy the occasion. The evening's most spectacular event was a fashion show modelled by local residents (including Camel's very own instructors Bianca and Tash). The show was masterminded by Emma, of Camel's Tribe shop, which contributed some of the stunning clothes and accessories on display. Three local design outlets participated: Tribe (stylish day, beach and evening wear), Hot Chili (sophisticated beach and evening wear) and Martine's Bijoux (jewellery and accessories).

Particularly popular with the audience were Tribe's elegant sari tops, gauzy hand-embroidered blouses from Hot Chili, and Martine's Bijoux jewellery (all of it!). Presented to a Latin beat against a backdrop of towers and domes, Il Castello provided an atmospheric venue.

The success of the celebrations (and the huge organization involved, thanks to the efforts of many) showed how far Sharm women have come in the last five years. As the event brought so many female Sharmers together, many of us were able put names to familiar faces at last, or finally meet the Sharm legend they've heard so much about! All were made to feel welcome, whether newcomer or veteran Sharmer.

Seamless organization, great company, and thoroughly good fun - congratulations ladies, and here's to the next five years!

Adventskalender Winners Enjoy Their Prize
Adventskalender Winners Enjoy Their PrizeThe winners of Unterwasser's Adventskalender quiz, Ms. Sonja Kopenhagen and Mr. Andreas Tamme, traveled to Egypt's Sinai coast during May to enjoy their prize. Their prize, a week's diving holiday in the Red Sea, was offered by Orca Reisen and Camel Dive Club & Hotel, Sharm el Sheikh. The lucky winner was selected after answering correctly a series of questions posted on Unterwasser's website every day during December. Although Mr Tamme was already a diver, his buddy Ms Kopenhagen had yet to qualify when they discovered they had won the competition. Ms Kopenhagen chose to do the theory and pool sections of her PADI Open Water course in Germany, and complete the open water dives in the Red Sea on arrival. Mr Tamme enjoyed four days' boat diving, including the famous Straits of Tiran and Ras Mohammed National Park.

This left the couple plenty of time to relax and enjoy Camel Hotel's facilities, as well as the nightlife of Na'ama Bay. Ms Kopenhagen said of the experience "The whole trip was extremely well organised, from the travel arranged by Orca right through to the hotel accommodation and diving course at Camel Dive Club & Hotel. I'm delighted. We'll be coming back!".
