Join us at the Big Scuba Show, London, 19-20 February

This weekend sees the launch of the UK's newest dive gathering, the Big Scuba Show at Olympia in London. Free try dives for all, talks by celebrity divers, expert underwater photo advice, competitions, and a chance to try or buy the latest scuba gear, are just some of the activities on offer at the show. Cath, Clare and Ornella will be on Camel's stand in the Red Sea zone, just inside the main entrance - pass by and say hello! Buy your entry tickets here in advance and save 3GBP per person.

Latest diving situation in Sharm El Sheikh

All diving activities have returned to normal, and all dive sites are open, after last month’s extremely unusual shark incidents. Local authorities have begun implementing the recommendations of the panel of expert scientists who visited to assess the reasons for the incidents. It is worth noting that none of the incidents involved divers. Our advice to divers is the same as it has always been: shark species are endangered; we are extremely fortunate to encounter these creatures underwater; if they are treated with proper respect and caution, the risk from diving with sharks is minimal. For more information, read recommendations on diving with sharks by shark scientist Dr Elke Bojanowski.

All is calm in Sharm El Sheikh

All is calm in Sharm El SheikhAfter eleven days of protests in Cairo and major Egyptian cities, the resort of Sharm El Sheikh and surrounding areas have not experienced any of the unrest that has been witnessed elsewhere. During the day tourists are sunbathing as usual and excursions including diving, snorkeling and desert trips are running ordinarily, as there are no restrictions for tourists and locals on moving around Sharm and its coastline. Cafes, restaurants and nightlife venues are also operating regularly. The airport is fully open and both charter and scheduled flights are landing and departing as normal. We have approximately 40 guests diving with us at the moment. We had three boats departing this morning for daily diving at Tiran, local sites and SS Thistlegorm wreck. Although Internet access all over Egypt has been limited during these days, here at Camel we only had a short interruption and some difficulties in receiving emails. At the moment we have full access to any website, including Facebook, Twitter and Skype. Mobile phone networks are fully operational.
