Each year, tens of millions of sharks are killed by Earth's most dangerous predators - humans. The recent shark incidents in Sharm El Sheikh highlighted the extent to which these endangered species remain misunderstood. During European Shark Week last October, divers from 13 countries joined forces to support a stronger European shark finning ban. Here at Camel, we collected 175 signatures for Project AWARE's Give Sharks a Fighting Chance campaign. We are delighted to hear that the campaign has succeeded: in December 2010, the European Parliament endorsed a resolution on shark finning calling on the European Commission to deliver a proposal prohibiting the removal of shark fins on-board vessels. The resolution will make it much easier to achieve legislation during 2011. We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all of you who supported our efforts to conserve sharks during 2010, whether you signed the petition or donated at our Shark pub quiz (pictured) held last October in conjunction Project AWARE, the Save Our Seas Foundation and The Shark Alliance.
