Sharm el Sheikh kids create ‘Fantastic Fish’

Sharm el Sheikh kids create ‘Fantastic Fish’To promote awareness of International Year of Biodiversity 2010, Camel Eco Tribe coordinator Cath Bates organised an art competition with local schools. Nearly 50 children from French and British schools in Sharm El Sheikh created spectacular drawings, paintings and collages with the theme ‘Fantastic Fish’. We displayed their artwork during April and May at our dive centre in Naama Bay. The overall winner was Alexandra Salama, aged 5, with her colourful fish collage (see picture). Alexandra’s prize is a year’s sponsorship of a manta ray for her school, via the Foundation for the Protection of Marine Megafauna . Runners-up received goodie bags from the Camel Tribe shop. See more ‘Fantastic Fish’ pictures in our gallery.

Beach party in aid of Project AWARE

Beach party in aid of Project AWAREMore than 300 Sharm residents and guests gathered for a beach party on 29 April to celebrate Earth Day. The 70s-themed evening provided a perfect excuse to dress up, and party-goers sported flares, platform shoes and big hair as they danced on the sand to classic 70s hits provided by Disco Dave. A nominal entrance fee for the event raised 7210 LE as a charitable contribution to support the conservation work of Project AWARE. A great time was had by all, and an 80s-themed party has already been proposed!

Support “Capture the Catcher”

Support “Capture the Catcher”We are supporting “Capture the Catcher”, a campaign to eliminate illegal fishing in the Red Sea, which has been launched by Egypt’s Chamber of Diving and Watersports (CDWS). The campaign calls on visitors who witness fishing in restricted areas, or see evidence such as lines or nets, to capture this on camera and submit their pictures to the CDWS. A report of all the evidence collected, will be submitted to the Egyptian government calling for action against illegal fishing and bringing this issue to the attention of decision-makers.
